Can more people use the app?

Yes. You
can create as many users on your device as you wish. Each user will have
their own unique spelling history and personal statistics.


Why is it slow loading the word pack?

The first time you load a new word pack
for a user, the app will – in addition to loading the word pack – be creating
a database in which to store your progress. It will therefore take a while
loading the word pack the first time for each user (maybe up to 15 seconds). After the initial load, it will be
much faster.

The pay-off for the long wait is that each user will have an
individual and comprehensive history of their spelling, and the ability to
generate useful statistics for you.



The word level is clearly wrong!

Spelling
difficulty is to a large degree subjective, so you may find that a word seems
to be levelled incorrectly.

Some words are also harder to spell in British
English than American English, for example “foetus/fetus”. It will initially
be the British variant which is used for deciding the level.

Why does it take ages downloading the word files?

For each
word, there is a sound file and a sound file for the context sentence. For
some word packs this can give 1500 files to download, and it is unavoidable
that this will take a while to download.


Why aren’t all the word packs available?

Instead
of waiting until we have created every word pack we can think of, we have
decided to release the app with two CORE packs and 5 LEVELS packs, as we
predict that these will be the packs which generate the most interest. We
will be adding more packs as we go along, and you will be able to preview the
next batch of word packs within the app. These are marked as ‘coming
soon’.


I think a word is misspelled, what do I do?

While we
have rigourously checked the content in this app for correctness, there is
always the risk of human error, and that a word has been misspelled, or an
alternative spelling has not been included. Either that, or the dictionary
you are using is not one of the ones which we have chosen as being the most
academically correct. Yes, there are discrepancies between dictionaries, and
the app only accepts spellings which we verify with our own sources.

If you
do find a word which is misspelled, please let us know, along with your
source against which you have double checked the spelling.



One of my learned words suddenly has zero stars

You may
be playing as a different user. Each user has their own progress, and
therefore their own star ratings for each word.

You may also be playing a
different word pack. Some words appear in more than one word pack. You will
need to spell the word correctly three times for each word pack.



Why aren’t all the files on my device?

The
app includes all the words and context sentences necessary to play the demo
word packs.

Because the audio files take up valuable storage space on your
device, you will need to download the files for each word pack.

If some of the
words are already included in another word pack, then these won’t be
downloaded again.

You can always delete files and download again as and when
you need them, at no extra charge (ie. once you’ve paid for the word pack you
can download and delete the files as many times as you want). This allows you
to keep the storage footprint of our app to a minimum, if available space is
important to you.



I spelled the word correctly but it didn’t register

There
can be several reasons for this:

a) You forgot to capitalise the word. In English, capitalisation matters and
is important to the correct spelling of the word. Some words are always
capitalised, no matter where they appear in the sentence. These words must be
capitalised when you answer, or else it will not count. Eg.
“Wednesday” is OK, “wednesday” is not.

b) You spelled the word correctly for American English, but your
settings were for British English or vice-versa.

c) The spelling you think is correct is not included in our database – i.e.
there is a discrepancy or a mistake. Please let us know if this is the case,
and we will be happy to look into the matter. Don’t forget to include your
source for cross-referencing.



The app crashes

We have
tested the app extensively, and have eliminated all causes for crashes that
we have found during development.

Apps do crash sometimes, but if you
experience repeated crashes in connection with the same action, please write
to us and explain what caused the crash, and how often it is happening.
